RENOVATION PROJECTS

Renovation projects are in many ways more difficult to design, plan and construct than new projects from the ground up. MOEN Architecture+ understands the special considerations and pitfalls involved in the renovation and upgrading of existing church and public assembly facilities. These include A.D.A./accessibility issues, incorporation of state of the art audio-visual and lighting systems, fire and life safety issues and construction phasing which will allow properties to operate during construction.

We work as a team with reputable consultants with building renovation experience who understand the complexities of upgrading structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to meet current code and user requirements. Our design solutions will transform obsolete facilities into functional and inviting spaces which enhance the activities and experiences of the facility users.

Prior to proceeding with design work, MOEN Architecture+ conducts a multi-disciplined due-diligence survey of the existing property and buildings. Our extensive experience indicates that the more thorough this initial evaluation is, the fewer the surprises and change orders there will be during the construction phase. The result of this survey will be a list of recommendations and options for the Building Committee or Owner’s consideration.

Once the Owner has made a decision to proceed with the renovation and possible addition of amenities to the facility, MOEN Architecture+ applies its creative design talent to plan the transformation and upgrade of the existing facility. We believe in teamwork and in partnering. This is especially crucial on renovation projects where the involvement of the users, contractor, consultants, engineers, etc. in close cooperation and communication is vital to the success of the project.

We work closely with the contractor and owner’s team during the design and preconstruction phases to refine the project scope and the phasing schedule to allow continued operation of the facility and to meet project budgetary requirements. We have a strong understanding of construction issues and work closely with the contractor to solve problems, clarify issues and deal with unforeseen conditions which invariably materialize with renovation projects.
