Lee Residence

The Lee Residence in Rancho Palos Verdes, California is perched on a property above the Pacific Ocean which offers expansive ocean views. The intent of this project was to upgrade the existing 1950’s post and beam tract home so as to better capture and orient its spaces toward the ocean and to fully emulate the owner’s fondness for “modern” architecture. In order to provide a new statement and orientation toward the ocean, the center section of the existing gabled structure was cut out and replaced with new construction covered by a large curved roof enclosed with expansive glass on both ends. This new open plan transparent living space opens up views to the ocean from the street and entryway past a new dramatic swimming pool and deck. The design utilizes extensive water features including a reflecting pool on the street side of the house, tiled wall fountains and custom swimming pool fountain elements. The main entry features a custom stainless steel clad door and the curved roof is clad with standing seam on the outside and custom milled hardwood on the inside. The main living area opens to the pool deck and view via a fully-retractable glass wall which slides into hidden pockets.
